4th National Telecommunications Plan underway in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Seef District, Kingdom of Bahrain – 3 February 2015 His ExcellencyEng. Kamalbin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportationand Telecommunicationsand the CEO of the Economic Development Board announced the start ofwork to developthe 4th National Telecommunications Plan inthe Kingdom of Bahrain which will set out the strategic objectives and the work plan for the telecommunications sector for the next three years .

His Excellency the Minister said "The telecommunications sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain has witnessed a significant progress during the previous yearsthrough the implementation of the previous three National Telecommunications Plans since 2002 which included initiatives that significantly contributed to the development of the sector. The new National Telecommunications Plan will be of a complementary role to the achievements and successes made in the sector and its development to promote competitiveness in other sectors and contribute to the prosperity of the economy in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The new plan also aims at positioning the Kingdom at the forefront of developed countries in the global ICT sector.”

His Excellency went on to say that "The new plan will undoubtedly be in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and with the approaches of the government’s 2015-2018 Blueprint."

His Excellency also outlined that there are several key themes upon which the plan will be based, the most important of which is the provision of high-quality telecommunications services of competitive prices to the citizens as well as studying the position of the telecommunications infrastructure and the associated provision of safe and high-speed data services at the same time helping increase consumer confidence in telecommunications services in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The National Telecommunications Plan is developed by the Ministry of Transportationand Telecommunications every three years in coordination with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. It is a road map that sets policy and future strategic approaches for the telecommunications sector in the Kingdom.
