Bus Shelters

As part of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ (MTT) goals on upgrading and modernizing the Kingdom’s public transport system and enhancing its service facilities and supporting infrastructure across this sector,

a major re-construction project is underway for all bus shelters and bus stops across the Kingdom. Trueform, a leading UK-based engineering company, has been contracted by the MTT to demolish and rebuild new bus shelters in Bahrain from 2015, 296 locations have been done to date. The ministry is continuing to construct bus shelters and to increase the number of air-conditioned bus shelters.

In line with the advanced transportation systems in developed countries, the ministry has completed setting up of 5 on street stopes in cooperation with the General Directorate of Traffic and Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs. The ministry is currently working to increase the number to 30 before the end of this year.

Following the successful installation of bus shelters throughout the Kingdom, the Ministry is now in the process of fitting solar panels to the shelters. These panels will provide a source of clean energy for each shelter to power the lighting, advertising panels plus future real time passenger information units.

The Ministry has also introduced taxi pylons in a number of taxi stops in the Capital Governorate as a first step to develop the taxi stops in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
