Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication Participates in the MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition 2016

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’’ Land Transport Affairs participated in the MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition 2016

Organized by the International Association of  Public Transport (UITP) in Dubai, UAE, under the theme "Urban Mobility: Think Big, Act Smart". 

The congress discussed a number of topics concerning worldwide public transport and included presentations from prominent experts in the field. Future challenges for public transport and their impact on conserving the environment were also discussed, in addition to showcasing the latest experiments and technology.  

On this occasion, the Director of the Land Transport Projects Directorate, Ms. Nada Yousif Deen, said, "This congress is a great platform for exchanging ideas and sharing experiences and achievements with key players and officials in the transport sector.”

During the conference, Ms. Deen presented a paper on Bahrain’s main land transport projects which are part of the Ministry’s strategic plan and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. The presentation gave an overview on the new public transport network which - was launched in February last year and which was fully rolled out by August 2015 - and how it served in upgrading national public transport services and elevating the standard of living for all citizens and residents by providing a safe, accessible, high quality public transport system on par with global standards.

It is worth noticing that the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications won first place for the ‘Best National Transport Project’ in 2016 for providing an exceptional public transportation system during the Arab Engineers Union Award ceremony.

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications is an active member of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and continuously participates in conferences and events in order to keep pace with industry’s latest developments, best practices, and to share experiences.
