January 2014 was same as the long-term normal in temperatures with below average wind speed and above average rainfall.

The mean temperature of the month was 17.0°C. This is the same as the long-term normal for January. The mean maximum temperature of the month was 19.4°C.

The highest temperature recorded in the month was 25.6°C set on the 29th January due to warm southeasterly winds which dominated that morning.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 14.7°C. The lowest temperature recorded was 12.0°C on the 10th and 23rd of January at Bahrain International Airport and 7.6°C at Shakir on the 10th of January.

During the month Bahrain had 20 days with minimum temperature reaching 15°C or less.

The mean relative humidity for January was 73%. The mean maximum relative humidity for the month was 83% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 58%.

The month was wet with 5 rainy days accumulating 33.7 mm. Trace amounts were also recorded on the 1st, 2nd and 29th January. The highest day with precipitation was 14.1 mm on the 6th of January. This was due to the movement of upper trough which has moved from the Mediterranean Sea towards the Arabian Peninsula and which produced light to moderate rain over the Kingdom.

An additional of 8.0 mm was recorded on the 5th, 2.8 mm on the 10th, 6.1 mm on the 11th and 2.7 mm on the 18th of January bringing the total amount to 33.7 mm. Note that the long-term mean total precipitation for January is 14.5 mm and the highest total of rainfall ever recorded for January was 135.9 mm which occurred on January 1959. Northwesterly winds accounted 52% of the observation with gusts reaching 32 knots on the 7th of January at the airport.

Fog patches were reported on the 29th of January which reduced the visibility to 1000 meters at the airport.
