Deepening the Bahrain Approach Channel

An integral part of the strategic objective of establishing Bahrain as a transhipment hub and maximising the nation’s assets is expanding sea access to the country.

Subsequent to the completion of the first phase of the dredging of the main approach channel to Bahrain in 2010, in 2011 the initiation plan of Phase II was approve to deepen the channel to 15 metres.

The new channel will accommodate newer generation vessels with a deeper draught, allowing them to call in Bahrain, thus strengthening the Kingdom’s international status as a global hub and boosting prospects for local industry.
