MONTHLY WEATHER SUMMARY – NOVEMBER 2018

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of November 2018, was slightly warmer than normal in temperatures and above average precipitation.

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of  November 2018, was slightly warmer than normal in temperatures and above average precipitation.

The month was wet with 5 rainy days, accumulating 29.2 mm of precipitation at Bahrain International Airport and 8 times more than the long-term normal for November which is 3.8 mm. Note that the highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during November was 146.8 mm which occurred on November 1940.

The highest day with precipitation was 17.1 mm fell on the 11th of November at Bahrain International Airport. Another amount of 0.4 mm fell on the 9th, 5.1 mm fell on the 10th, 0.1 mm fell on the 12th and 6.5 mm fell on the 25th of November which made the total monthly amount 29.2 mm at Bahrain International Airport. Trace amounts were also recorded on 13th, 14th, 20th, 23rd and 24th of November.

Note that the highest daily rainfall ever recorded during November was 57.6 mm which occurred on 19th November 2000.

Thunderstorms occurred on 3 days. Unsettled weather affected the kingdom on the 11th of November which produces Heavy rain showers associated with thunderstorm & strong gusts accumulating daily total precipitation of 17.1 mm and the visibility dropped to 800 meters at Bahrain International Airport and gust reached 35 knots. The intensity of rain was 0.58 mm/min from 10:27 LT to 10:55 LT with highest of 1.0 mm/min at 10:37 LT, 10:38 LT and 10:43 LT.

Also a total precipitation of 33.6 mm fall at Shakir Airbase with gust reached 33 knots on the same day.

The total monthly precipitation recorded for November 2018 at Sitra Island was 37.2 mm whereas the total precipitation at King Fahd Causeway was 34.8 mm, at Durrat Al Bahrain was 19.0 mm and at Shakir Airbase was 45.4 mm.

Light rain was also reported in some areas on the 8th of November.

The mean temperature of the month was 24.9°C which is 0.6°C above the long-term normal.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 27.5°C which is 0.2°C below the long-term normal. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 32.5°C which occurred on the 15th of November at Bahrain International Airport.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 22.7°C which is 1.5°C above the long-term. The lowest temperature recorded was 18.9°C set on the 30th of November at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 16.3°C on the 29th of November at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for November was 69% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 79% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 56%.

Northwesterly winds accounted 34% with gusts reaching 35 knots on the 11th of November at Bahrain International Airport. But reached 37 knots on the 25th of November at Durrat Al Bahrain.
