MONTHLY WEATHER SUMMARY –OCTOBER 2020

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of    October 2020, was slightly warmer than normal with below average relative humidities and wind speed.

The mean temperature of the month was 30.1°C which is 0.9°C above the long-term normal for October. Note that the highest mean monthly temperature for October was 32.1°C recorded in 2019.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 33.3°C which is 0.2°C above the long-term normal.

During the month Bahrain had 8 days with maximum temperature exceeded 35°C. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 37.8°C which occurred on the 1st and 7th October at Bahrain International Airport. But recorded 41.2°C on the 1st October at Bahrain International Circuit. 

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 26.8°C which is 1.3°C above the long-term normal. The lowest temperature recorded was 23.5°C set on the 27th October at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 20.6°C on the 31st October at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for October was 56% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 70% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 41%. The maximum relative humidity was 82% recorded on the 25th and the minimum relative humidity was 16% recorded on the 11th. 

No precipitation was reported in October. Note that the long-term average total precipitation for October is 0.5 mm. The highest monthly total precipitation recorded during October at Bahrain International Airport was 19.9 mm which occurred in 2018.

October 2020 was the sunniest month for all October since the sunshine records began in 1968. The total hours of sunshine for the month was 331.3 hours. The old record was 329.4 hours which was recorded in October 2014.

The Mean wind speed for October was 6 knots. The prevailing wind was 68% from the Northwest-North direction. Gust winds reached 24 knots on the 8th and 9th October at Bahrain International Airport and also 24 konts on the 8th October at King Fahad Causeway. But Gust winds reached 25 knots on the same day at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Haze reported on the 27th and 28th October. Visibility dropped to 5000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
