Bahrain Chairs GCC Transport Undersecretaries Meeting

As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Bader Hood Al Mahmood, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, chaired the 29th extraordinary meeting of the Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Transport and Communications of the GCC states, held via videoconference and attended by Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post. 

Al Mahmood affirmed the GCC countries’ keenness to maintain coordination and monitor developments in the transport and communications sector in light of the repercussions of the Iranian attacks on GCC states and Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, noting the importance of strengthening cooperation among member states to ensure business continuity and the smooth flow of goods, in a manner that supports sector stability and serves common interests.

The meeting addressed a number of strategic topics related to enhancing the efficiency of the transport sector and ensuring the continuity of supply chains among member states, contributing to the smooth movement of goods and keeping pace with regional and international developments. It also reviewed initiatives and studies aimed at strengthening preparedness and addressing various scenarios, in addition to discussing ways to develop coordinated and integrated procedures to support sector stability and mitigate the impact of changes on transport and trade.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the undersecretaries expressed their appreciation for the cooperation among member states and for the efforts of the GCC General Secretariat in coordination and follow-up, affirming the commitment of GCC countries to continue working to enhance the resilience of the Gulf transport sector and its ability to adapt to various developments.
