
HE Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, held a business meeting with Alexis Vafeades, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, on the sidelines of the Cyprus Shipping Conference 2025.
The meeting discussed means to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of port development, cargo handling operations, and logistics connectivity, in addition to strengthening the exchange of expertise in specialized logistics services.
The minister and his accompanying delegation also visited the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) in Cyprus, where they were received by Commander Andreas Charalambides. They were briefed on the latest technologies used in managing emergency and rescue operations, as well as coordination mechanisms among the relevant institutions.
HE Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed praised the center’s capabilities and its active role in supporting maritime safety and security, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation and knowledge exchange to further advance the regional maritime and air rescue sectors.
He also held a meeting with Marina Hadjimanolis, Minister of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus, during which they discussed strengthening maritime cooperation, focusing on expertise exchange and developing joint initiatives in maritime affairs and commercial shipping services.
Both sides emphasised the importance of maintaining coordination and strengthening relations to support economic growth and enhance the quality of maritime services, while looking forward to a future of deeper cooperation and openness in the maritime sector between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Cyprus.
