As part of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ efforts to develop services at Bahrain International Airport, improve their efficiency and quality, and support more sustainable transport, the Land Transport Sector launched a pilot project in collaboration with Fakhro Motors. The project introduces two electric vehicles to the airport taxi service and commenced operations on 1 November 2026.
The initiative aims to assess the suitability of electric vehicles for taxi operations, evaluate their operational efficiency, and identify their operating and charging requirements. The outcomes will help inform decisions on the potential future expansion of electric vehicles in the taxi sector and contribute to more sustainable transport.
The initiative supports SDG 11, which focuses on Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13, which focuses on Climate Action, by promoting environmentally friendly transport and helping to reduce transport-related emissions.
The service is available at the designated taxi area at Bahrain International Airport, near Gate 3.
