Sixth National Telecommunications Plan

The Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain has adopted the Sixth National Telecommunications Plan (the Plan) in November 2023, pursuant to Article (15) of the Telecommunications Law issued by Decree Law No. (48) of 2002 (the Telecommunications Law).

The Sixth National Telecommunications Plan (NTP6)  sets the sector's strategy and the Government's general policy on the telecommunications and information technology sector. NTP6 contained pillars and 30 initiatives under the concept of “Smart Kingdom”.

The plan aims to develop the telecommunications sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain during the period from 2023 to 2026, focusing on six main pillars:
1.     National Infrastructure and International Connectivity
2.     Digital transformation
3.     Investment Attraction
4.     Digital Safety & Cyber Security
5.     Green digital Action
6.     Institutional governance

The Sixth National Telecommunications Plan (NTP6) is a strategic initiative aim to strengthening and expanding the infrastructure of telecommunications and information technologies in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It focuses on supporting digital transformation, ensuring universal access to high-speed internet for all citizens, as well as enhancing cybersecurity and protecting personal data. NTP6 promotes and foster the contribution to the national digital economy by attracting foreign investment and creating new job opportunities, in addition to strengthening the Kingdom of Bahrain's position as a regional leader for telecommunications and information technology.

It also includes national policies on artificial intelligence and green digital act, which contributes to achieving sustainable development goals and raising the quality of life for citizens.

The Sixth National Telecommunication Plan was recognized as champion project of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) by the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) in 2024.
