Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Telecommunications at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, chaired the 32nd meeting of the Committee for Undersecretaries of Post and Telecommunications in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, held via videoconference. The meeting was attended by Dr. Khalid Abdulrahman Al Haidan, Assistant Undersecretary for Postal Affairs, representatives from the Kingdom of Bahrain’s telecommunications and postal sectors, and representatives of the member states and the GCC General Secretariat.
The meeting emphasised the importance of continuing to support joint GCC action and strengthening coordination and integration among GCC countries in the postal and telecommunications sectors, contributing to improved and more efficient services, the exchange of expertise and experience, and keeping pace with rapid developments in the two sectors.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa said that rapid developments in the postal and telecommunications sectors, changing user needs, and the expansion of digital services and e-commerce highlight the importance of continued coordination and integration among GCC countries and making use of shared expertise and experience to improve service efficiency and quality.
He also emphasised the importance of continuing to develop joint GCC initiatives and moving them towards implementation by identifying priorities and projects with a direct impact and establishing clear implementation frameworks, strengthening integration among GCC countries and keeping pace with future needs and developments in the postal and telecommunications sectors.
The meeting discussed topics and initiatives on the agenda and related recommendations in the postal and telecommunications sectors, as well as the work of specialised GCC committees and working groups. It also explored means to strengthen cooperation and integration among member states and improve service efficiency.
In telecommunications, the meeting discussed developing legislative and regulatory frameworks, strengthening infrastructure readiness and continuity, coordinating responses to incidents and emergencies, improving connectivity and data flows among GCC countries, and exchanging regulatory expertise and experience.
In the postal sector, the meeting discussed developing postal services and products, strengthening business continuity and readiness to deal with exceptional circumstances, developing mail transport routes and alternative options, supporting e-commerce, facilitating parcel movement among GCC countries, and developing channels and options for receiving and delivering postal parcels.
