Assistant Undersecretary for Telecommunications Participates in UNESCO Global Forum on Ethics of AI Session

Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Telecommunications at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in the first session of the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on AI, Multilateralism and Diplomacy, titled "Regional Cooperation in Action", as part of the 4th UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence 2026, held in Saudi Arabia.

The session discussed the role of regional cooperation in addressing AI governance challenges and the importance of exchanging expertise and practices among countries, as well as areas where joint action at the regional level can be strengthened.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa emphasised the importance of developing digital infrastructure and telecommunications networks to keep pace with the rapidly evolving requirements of AI technologies.

He highlighted the role of regional cooperation in strengthening digital connectivity, enhancing the security and resilience of telecommunications networks, and supporting digital inclusion to ensure that society as a whole benefits from technological advances.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa highlighted the importance of continuing to develop digital infrastructure indicators and capabilities at the regional level in line with the rapid growth of AI applications, data and digital services, contributing to secure, reliable, resilient and interoperable telecommunications networks.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa said advanced and secure digital infrastructure is essential to enabling countries in the region to expand the responsible and inclusive use of AI technologies and harness their potential to support development and digital transformation.

The participation reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications to enhancing Bahrain's contribution to international and regional dialogue on the governance of emerging technologies and exchanging expertise in developing a trusted digital environment that supports the use of AI for the benefit of development and society.
