HE Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, launched a pilot project to introduce electric vehicles into taxi services at Bahrain International Airport, in cooperation with Fakhro Motors, and inaugurated a new Bahrain Post branch at the airport.

The launch was attended by officials from the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and representatives of Bahrain Airport Company, Bahrain Airport Services and Fakhro Motors.

The Transportation Minister emphasised the importance of continuing to develop services at Bahrain International Airport and leveraging modern technologies and innovative solutions to enhance their efficiency and quality, facilitate passenger procedures, improve the passenger experience and promote more sustainable services.

HE Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed said the pilot project aims to assess the suitability of electric vehicles for taxi operations, evaluate their operational efficiency and operating requirements, and support decisions on the potential expansion of their use in the future, contributing to greater sustainability in the transport sector.

The Transportation Minister noted that the opening of the new Bahrain Post branch at the airport forms part of ongoing efforts to develop postal services and expand access to them by providing smart services and solutions that meet travellers' needs and offer greater flexibility and convenience.

Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transportation and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, said the pilot project would enable taxi drivers operating at Bahrain International Airport to gain practical experience in operating electric vehicles. She added that feedback from drivers and passengers would help evaluate the project's results.

Mohammed Adel Fakhro, Managing Director of Fakhro Motors, highlighted the company's commitment to supporting the development of sustainable transport in Bahrain, as well as electric vehicle charging infrastructure at Bahrain International Airport, to provide the operational requirements necessary for the pilot project.

As for postal services, the Transportation Minister reviewed the services available to travellers during the opening of the new Bahrain Post branch. The minister also inspected the electronic parcel lockers recently activated at the airport, which allow customers to collect their parcels around the clock, regardless of post office opening hours.

The available services include shipping excess baggage to domestic and international destinations at competitive rates, as well as a smart language assistance system developed by the Bahrain Post team using artificial intelligence technologies. The system provides instant translation in several languages, facilitating communication with customers and improving their experience.
