
Bader Hood Al Mahmood, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, attended the closing ceremony of the first Level 1 training course accredited by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA). The Kingdom of Bahrain hosted the programme from January 4 to February 11.
The course was organised by Middle East Navigation Aids Services (MENAS) and the International Foundation for Aids to Navigation (IFAN), in cooperation with Trinity House (TH), and included trainees from several friendly and sister countries.
Al Mahmood delivered the keynote address at the closing ceremony, in the presence of representatives of the IALA World-Wide Academy and specialists from the ports and maritime navigation sector.
Al Mahmood underscored that Bahrain’s hosting of the specialised course reflects its regional standing in developing national and regional capabilities in aids to navigation management and its commitment to applying the highest international maritime safety standards. He added that investing in technical capacity building enhances the efficiency of the maritime marking system and supports the sustainability of the maritime sector, contributing to improved safety and the protection of lives and property at sea.
Al Mahmoud also commended the efforts of IALA, MENAS, and Trinity House in organising the programme and expressed aspiration to further strengthen cooperation in training, knowledge transfer, and expertise exchange to support the development of the ports and maritime navigation sector in the region.
