The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, in coordination and cooperation with the Transport General Authority and relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, announced that licensed taxis from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will be permitted to transport passengers via the King Fahd Causeway between the two countries, effective September 6, in accordance with approved regulations and requirements.
The move follows cooperation and coordination between the relevant authorities in both countries as part of joint efforts to develop land transport options, facilitate the movement of citizens, residents and visitors, and enhance integration and connectivity between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, said allowing taxis to transport passengers via the King Fahd Causeway would provide flexible, safe and efficient transport options, support smoother movement between the two countries and improve the passenger experience.
Al Dhaen commended the cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia, particularly the Transport General Authority, and the joint efforts that contributed to launching and regulating the service in support of the two countries' shared interests.
She noted that taxis will cross the causeway in accordance with approved regulatory frameworks and requirements and in coordination with the relevant authorities in both countries, ensuring regulated crossing procedures, smooth traffic flow and compliance with security, safety and service quality standards.
The ministry noted that the service is subject to several regulatory requirements, including that only officially licensed taxis may cross the causeway, that vehicles comply with approved technical requirements, and that they are no more than five years old, in accordance with the safety and quality standards applied in Saudi Arabia.
