Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, launched a commemorative stamp marking the Year of Isa Al Kabeer in honour of His Highness the late Isa Al Kabeer, Ruler of Bahrain and its Dependencies, founder of the modern state and leader of institutional development.
The minister said the commemorative stamp marks an important national milestone documenting the history of Bahrain's postal sector, which dates back to August 1, 1884, with the opening of the first post office in Manama. He noted that the sector has continued to evolve, enhancing communication and supporting various aspects of development, leading to a modern postal system that keeps pace with technological advancements and meets the needs of the community.
He said commemorating national figures through stamp issues highlights the role of stamps in documenting significant national milestones and preserving the Kingdom's national memory for future generations.
The minister affirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications to continuing the development of the postal sector and enhancing its capabilities in line with international standards to support the Kingdom's comprehensive development.
The commemorative issue forms part of the ministry's efforts to document national milestones and honour figures who contributed to Bahrain's development. It also reinforces the role of postage stamps as cultural and historical issues that reflect the Kingdom's history and heritage and highlight its achievements and national figures, foremost among them His Highness the late Isa Al Kabeer, Ruler of Bahrain and its Dependencies, in recognition of his role in laying the foundations of the state and building its institutions.
