Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, and Robert Falck, Chief Executive Officer of Swedish company Einride, which specialises in digital, electric and autonomous freight solutions, signed a cooperation framework via videoconference to strengthen collaboration in the digitalisation, electrification and automation of heavy transport in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The cooperation framework aims to support the development of Bahrain's transportion and logistics sector and promote the adoption of advanced technologies, in line with the objectives of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
On the occasion, the minister said the signing reflects Bahrain's forward-looking approach to keeping pace with global developments in the transport and logistics sector and its commitment to harnessing innovative technologies to enhance the sector's efficiency and sustainability, further reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a leading regional logistics hub.
He added that the cooperation reflects Bahrain's openness to emerging technologies and advanced solutions, while underscoring the importance of conducting the necessary technical and regulatory studies to ensure that future initiatives are aligned with national priorities and achieve the highest standards of efficiency, safety and sustainability.
The cooperation framework between the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and Einride focuses on studying the application of advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of land freight operations. This includes assessing the potential use of Einride Saga, the company's artificial intelligence-powered operating platform, to analyse and manage transport networks in real time, exploring opportunities to deploy a connected fleet of heavy electric trucks, and developing a network of smart charging stations along Bahrain's strategic logistics corridors.
The cooperation also includes examining the regulatory and operational requirements associated with autonomous freight vehicle technologies, with a view to establishing an enabling environment to assess the feasibility of implementing such solutions in accordance with the applicable technical and regulatory requirements, as well as safety and efficiency standards.
The signing of the cooperation framework forms part of the Ministry's efforts to advance innovation in the transport and logistics sector and expand cooperation with leading international companies specialising in advanced technologies. It also aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge and support the development of smart and sustainable transport solutions that enhance Bahrain's competitiveness at both the regional and international levels.
