Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, paid a visit to the public bus depot, in the presence of the executive management of Bahrain Public Transport Company (BPTC).
The visit reviewed operational readiness, daily operations and future plans to support the transition to a more sustainable public transport system.
The Undersecretary affirmed the ministry's commitment to further developing Bahrain's public transport system to enhance its efficiency, safety and sustainability, while providing reliable services in line with international best practices.
Al Dhaen noted continued improvements in the network's performance and a growing number of passengers, reflecting the sector's operational readiness and service reliability. She also reviewed preparations for the introduction of electric buses as part of Bahrain's plans to develop an integrated, environmentally friendly transport system that supports the Kingdom's net-zero emissions target by 2060.
During the visit, the Company outlined plans to leverage the expertise of its UK-based parent company, Mobico Group, to introduce clean-vehicle technologies and transition bus depots to electric operations, in line with international best practices.
Robert Conway, General Manager of the BPTC, reaffirmed the company's commitment to working with the ministry to support the rollout of electric buses and further strengthen Bahrain's public transport network.
The BPTC operates a fleet of around 140 buses across 26 routes serving more than 650 bus stops, and has recorded more than 113 million passenger journeys since 2015.
