Ms. Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, conducted an inspection visit to a number of initiatives and projects being implemented by the Ministry’s Land Transport Affairs sector. The visit aimed to assess their readiness and monitor progress against established operational and implementation timelines, ensuring accelerated delivery and maximizing their developmental impact.
The visit included several public transport facilities, among them the Salmaniya Bus Station, which is being developed with the support of stc Bahrain. Upon completion, it is set to become the first digital bus station in the Kingdom of Bahrain, marking a significant step in supporting the National Transport Strategy and advancing digital transformation within the transport sector. The initiative further reinforces Bahrain’s position as a leading regional hub for smart and sustainable mobility.
During the visit, the Undersecretary emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to further enhancing public transport projects across the Kingdom of Bahrain, while continuing to expand partnerships with the private sector to help achieve strategic transportation objectives.
She also noted that the Ministry is actively working on the review and development of an integrated public transport network that will, in the future, connect bus services with the planned metro system. This integration is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce carbon emissions, and support economic development by facilitating efficient access to workplaces, educational institutions, and essential services. These efforts contribute to economic growth and align with the principles of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
Furthermore, she highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing expansion of solar-powered public transport stations as part of its commitment to sustainable infrastructure. By utilizing renewable energy to operate station facilities, these projects reduce reliance on the conventional electricity grid and support the Kingdom’s environmental sustainability objectives.
